The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has revealed the discovery of 34 illegal refineries and 17 unauthorized pipeline connections in the Niger Delta region within one week, as part of its ongoing “War on Crude Oil Theft” initiative.
In a documentary released on its official YouTube channel, NNPCL detailed operations carried out from November 30 to December 6, 2024, aimed at curbing crude oil theft and protecting Nigeria’s resources.
The company disclosed that 94 oil theft incidents were recorded across Bayelsa, Rivers, and Abia States during the period.
“In a series of coordinated operations, illegal pipelines were discovered and dismantled at key hotspots such as Ogboingbiri, Ejehinkiri, and Alabelema in Bayelsa State,” the video highlighted.
In Rivers State, an illegal operation at Okrika 7 was swiftly shut down by security forces, exposing a sophisticated setup used by criminals to exploit Nigeria’s oil resources.
The NNPCL reiterated its commitment to ending crude oil theft, stating that these efforts are essential to safeguarding the nation’s energy assets and supporting economic growth.
