The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) celebrates 78 years of championing children’s rights and well-being globally, with widespread recognition of its contributions to reducing child mortality, enhancing education, and supporting vulnerable communities.
Joining the global commemoration, Hon. Folakemi Agboola, a chairmanship aspirant in Ejigbo LCDA, Lagos State, highlighted the importance of advocating for children’s welfare, especially for those in disadvantaged circumstances.
In a statement on Wednesday, Agboola described the anniversary as a call to action for stakeholders to prioritize children’s rights and protection.
“Today is a reminder for us all to recommit to ensuring every child has access to quality education, healthcare, and protection from exploitation. As a mother and advocate, I am committed to making this a reality in Ejigbo LCDA,” she said.
Agboola praised UNICEF’s efforts in addressing critical issues facing vulnerable children worldwide, particularly in healthcare, education, and protection from abuse. She also emphasized the need for collaborative action to uphold children’s rights and well-being.
If elected as chairman, Agboola pledged to strengthen immunization programs, improve healthcare facilities, combat child malnutrition, and promote education with a focus on gender equality. She also vowed to campaign against child labor, trafficking, and exploitation.
“As we celebrate UNICEF Foundation Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to promoting the welfare and protection of children,” she added, urging stakeholders to work together to create a brighter future for the younger generation.
