Anambra Govt Denies Hospital Gates Contract Claims

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Anambra State Government has dismissed claims of impropriety in the award of a contract for the construction of gates at General Hospital, Okpoko, and Specialist Hospital, Fegge, following a report by Sahara Reporters.

In a statement released by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, the government clarified that the contract was valued at ₦123,217,218.82, not the ₦229 million cited in the report. The commissioner noted that the figure is publicly verifiable on the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) e-portal.

Mefor said the procurement process was conducted in full compliance with due process, with oversight from the BPP and the Ministry of Health, and that the contractor, Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd, was duly mobilised to complete the project.

“The Anambra State Government regrets that Sahara Reporters failed to verify the facts before publication, despite the information being available on the BPP e-portal,” Mefor stated, adding that such reporting raises questions about the motivations behind the article.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, emphasizing that all public funds are managed diligently.

“The claims by Sahara Reporters are therefore baseless and misleading,” the commissioner concluded.
