Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has declared his support for Labour Party’s Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections, signaling a potential political realignment.
During a closed-door meeting with Obi at the Government House on Thursday, the two leaders discussed national issues, governance, and potential collaboration.
“As a person, I am ready to work with Peter Obi to bring good governance to Nigeria. We must come together, close ranks, and provide a vibrant opposition that will rescue and recover our country from mediocrity,” Mohammed said.
While neither party confirmed an official alliance, Mohammed hinted at growing political synergy among opposition figures. “Our coming together is a message. Many of our colleagues, including PDP governors, support this kind of initiative,” he stated.
Obi described the meeting as a consultation on pressing national issues, emphasizing the need for collaboration. “Given what our country is going through, I felt it was necessary to engage Governor Mohammed in discussions about Nigeria’s future,” he said.
The discussions also touched on regional challenges, particularly in northern Nigeria, with Obi highlighting the need for strategic investments in agriculture and poverty alleviation.
