Couple Makes History with First Wedding on Lagos–Ibadan Train

By Ayomide Otitoju

A Nigerian couple has made history after exchanging vows aboard a moving Lagos–Ibadan train, in what many have hailed as a refreshing and innovative twist to traditional weddings.

The bride, Sharon Ifunanya, an events planner, and her groom, Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua, transformed one of the train’s coaches into a wedding venue adorned with floral décor, bridesmaids, groomsmen, guests, and officiating ministers.

The ceremony, which began at the Mobolaji Johnson Station in Alagomeji-Yaba, Lagos, quickly went viral after videos from the event surfaced on social media, drawing widespread admiration for the couple’s creativity and daring choice of venue.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) also joined in celebrating the milestone, posting on X (formerly Twitter):

“From lovebirds to locomotives, we’re keeping things on track. History made — the first-ever wedding on a moving train in Nigeria. Proof that the journey can be just as beautiful as the destination. At NRC, every ride tells a story.”

The unique ceremony attracted several notable figures from the Nigerian entertainment industry, including Stan Nze and his wife Blessing, as well as actor Buchi Franklin, who were among the guests.

Social media users have since lauded the couple for blending love, adventure, and innovation, describing the wedding as a “beautiful journey on track” and a symbol of creative expression in modern Nigerian celebrations.
