Dangote Group has unveiled a series of major technical partnerships to support the expansion of its fertiliser operations in Nigeria and the development of new facilities in Ethiopia. The agreements form part of the Group’s long-term strategy to boost regional food security, enhance agricultural productivity, and elevate Africa’s standing in the global fertiliser market.
Under the new partnerships, the company plans to increase its urea production capacity in Nigeria from three million metric tonnes to nine million metric tonnes annually. The current plant operates two production trains, while the expansion will add four more, positioning the Group to meet rising demand for high-quality fertiliser across Africa and international markets.
The Group also recently broke ground on a $2.5 billion fertiliser plant in Gode, Ethiopia. Designed to produce three million metric tonnes of urea per year, the facility is expected to play a key role in strengthening food security and driving industrial development in the region.
As part of its expansion plans, Dangote Group has signed agreements with several global technology and engineering leaders:
Topsoe will provide ammonia technology licences and full process design packages for six ammonia plants—four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia—using its advanced, energy-efficient production processes.
Saipem will supply technology licensing and complete process design packages for urea melt units at all six plants, leveraging its long-standing expertise in fertiliser production systems.
Thyssenkrupp/UFT will deliver granulation technology and design packages, enabling the production of premium-grade urea granules suitable for domestic use and export.
Engineers India Limited has been appointed project management and EPC management consultant for the four fertiliser plants under development in Lekki, Nigeria, bringing extensive experience in large-scale industrial project delivery.
Dangote Group said the partnerships underscore its commitment to building world-class industrial assets that align with global standards of technology, safety, and efficiency. The expanded network of fertiliser plants is expected to increase regional urea and ammonia output, create jobs, strengthen agricultural value chains, and contribute to broader economic growth in Nigeria, Ethiopia, and across Africa.
