The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that it will boycott the party’s national convention scheduled for Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State, citing concerns over the eligibility of a chairmanship aspirant.
In a statement on Friday, the chapter’s Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo, said the decision was prompted by the candidacy of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, whom the state chapter insists is not a legitimate member of the party.
The PDP in Kebbi recalled that Turaki was suspended in April 2023 by the Nasarawa 1 Ward for alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities and failure to pay party dues. The suspension also affected seven others, including former governorship candidate, Gen. Bello S. Yaki.
The chapter said it had formally notified the chairman of the screening committee for the national convention through a petition dated October 25, 2025, rejecting Turaki’s nomination on these grounds. The petition was jointly signed by State Chairman, Alhaji Usman Bello Suru, and Secretary, Abubakar Bawa Kalgo, and supported by signatures and phone numbers of members of both the state working and non-working committees.
The Kebbi PDP warned that anyone presenting themselves as a delegate from the state at the convention would be doing so without authorisation, adding that all its delegates would remain at home in protest.
Despite the boycott, the national convention is expected to hold as scheduled, with other delegates and stakeholders in attendance.
