The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has re-elected Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi as its state chairman, following a consensus vote at the party’s congress on Tuesday at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan. Ojelabi will serve another four-year term leading the party’s affairs in the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council, former Governor Akinwumi Ambode, ex-Senators Gbenga Ashafa and Olorunnimbe Mamora, as well as members of the Governance Advisory Council, attended the congress. Thousands of delegates from all 20 local government areas participated in the exercise.
The election process, overseen by a committee led by Mrs. Stella Okotete and supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was conducted peacefully. Party delegates opted for a consensus to elect the executive members, making the process seamless and free of conflict.
Most outgoing executives were retained, except for seven members who had served two consecutive terms. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the smooth conduct of the congress, saying it demonstrated APC’s unity and readiness to face opposition parties ahead of upcoming elections. He noted that the outcome reflected the wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reinforced Lagos as a stronghold of progressive politics.
Ojelabi expressed gratitude for the consensus election, describing it as a reflection of renewed unity and dedication among party members. He highlighted APC’s expanded political base and electoral successes in Lagos, urging members to recommit to strengthening the party structure and ensuring continued good governance.
The congress also re-elected key executives, including:
Deputy Chairman: Hon. Moshood Mayegun (Lagos Island)
State Secretary: Hon. Ademola Jokomba (Ikorodu)
Assistant Secretary: Mariam Animawun (Kosofe)
Zonal Vice Chairmen: Babatunde Aboyade (West, Alimosho), Hon. Olayinka Olusanya (East, Epe), Hon. Muideen Daramola (Central, Eti Osa)
State Legal Adviser: Folashade Bakare (Eti Osa)
State Treasurer: Hon. Abiodun Akhigbe (Kosofe)
Publicity Secretary: Hon. Oluseye Oladejo (Mushin)
State Youth Leader: Dr. Muritala Seriki (Kosofe)
Other officers, including assistant roles, women leaders, youth leaders, and representatives for people living with disabilities, were also confirmed, reflecting a broad and inclusive executive structure.
Mrs. Okotete noted that the congress adhered strictly to Article 20 of the APC constitution, ensuring a democratic, transparent, and fair process. She emphasized that a strong party structure in Lagos is critical to consolidating APC’s national influence.
The re-election of Ojelabi and the executive team signals continuity in leadership and a renewed focus on party unity, strategic growth, and preparation for future elections in the state.
