Nigerians nationwide welcomed 2025 with joy, fireworks, and a collective sense of optimism. From bustling Lagos to serene Taraba, millions gathered in churches, fun spots, and public venues to bid farewell to 2024 and embrace the new year with renewed aspirations.
Fireworks lit up the skyline over landmarks like Lagos’ Tafawa Balewa Square, where jubilant residents gathered to celebrate. As the clock struck midnight, shouts of “Happy New Year!” reverberated across the country, accompanied by dazzling pyrotechnic displays.
In churches such as the Cathedral Church of Christ in Marina, Lagos, the annual Watch Night service drew worshippers who prayed for hope, renewal, and faith as they transitioned into the new year. Across states, governors and high-profile figures sent messages of encouragement, pledging better times for Nigerians in 2025.
Despite the economic challenges of 2024, including soaring inflation and rising costs of essentials, the nation’s spirit remained resilient. Worshippers across Nigeria filled churches with prayers and gratitude, expressing hope for a brighter future.
Meanwhile, global celebrations set the tone for the new year. Kiribati and the Christmas Islands were the first to ring in 2025, followed by Australia, where Sydney Harbour hosted over a million spectators for its iconic fireworks display.
As 2025 begins, Nigerians join the world in embracing the new year with anticipation and determination to achieve greater milestones.
