Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed 12 spots to 26th in the latest FIFA World Ranking, released Monday, following their impressive campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The team, coached by Eric Chelle, secured third place after defeating Egypt in the consolation match, having lost only once in seven games—a semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco on penalties. Their performance, praised for teamwork and coordination, marked a significant rise from 38th in the previous ranking.
The top 10 in the global rankings remain Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany. In Africa, Nigeria ranks third behind Morocco and Senegal, ahead of Algeria, Egypt, and other continental powers.
The Federal Government lauded the Super Eagles for their discipline, unity, and resilience. Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris said the team “reminded us that wearing the green and white is about courage, unity, and never giving up,” urging players to “learn from this experience, stay united, and return stronger.”
Nigeria’s rise underscores its growing stature on the African and global football stage, reflecting a blend of homegrown talent and international experience.
