The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a new peak power generation of 5,801.84 megawatts (MW), marking another milestone in the nation’s electricity supply.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, TCN said the achievement, recorded on March 4, 2025, at 21:15 hours, reflects steady progress in the power sector. The agency noted that the power was transmitted efficiently with a stable frequency of 49.69Hz and was optimally distributed by electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), ensuring improved supply to consumers.
“This achievement underscores the continued progress in the power sector, demonstrating the commitment of the present administration, power generation companies (GenCos), TCN, and DisCos to advancing the nation’s electricity supply,” the statement read in part.
The new peak follows incremental improvements in recent weeks. On March 2, 2025, Nigeria recorded a peak generation of 5,713.60MW and a daily energy supply of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh). Similarly, on February 14, 2025, power generation hit 5,543.20MW, with a daily supply of 125,159.48MWh—both successfully transmitted to the distribution network.
TCN attributed the rising power generation to ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and key industry stakeholders to strengthen the national grid. However, despite the recent gains, Nigeria’s electricity generation remains significantly below the estimated 30,000MW required to meet the demands of its over 200 million population.
Energy experts continue to emphasize the need for substantial investments in generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure to bridge the country’s longstanding power deficit.
