Swiss food giant Nestlé on Monday announced a precautionary recall of certain batches of infant formula across multiple European countries, including France, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, and Sweden.
The company said it identified a “quality issue” in an ingredient sourced from one of its key suppliers. Nestlé confirmed that testing was underway for all arachidonic acid oil and related oil mixes used in potentially affected products. “No illnesses have been confirmed in connection with the products involved to date,” the company said.
Nestlé added that it is coordinating with authorities in the affected countries to ensure proper measures are taken. “Nestlé assures parents and caregivers that it is implementing appropriate actions, including a product recall where necessary,” the statement said.
In France, Nestlé said it was conducting a “preventive and voluntary recall” of specific batches of its Guigoz and Nidal infant formulas following investigations indicating the potential presence of cereulide, a toxin that can cause digestive issues.
Affected products are sold under different brand names across countries—for example, Beba and Alfamino in Germany. Nestlé provided instructions for returning the products and obtaining a refund, along with a consumer hotline for inquiries.
