The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has suspended Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving young people within the church. The decision, outlined in an internal memo dated October 28, 2024, was announced as the church called for a detailed investigation within two weeks.
The memo, titled “Investigation and Suspension Regarding Allegations of Homosexuality,” was addressed to the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, underscoring RCCG’s firm stance on its values and doctrines. Signed by RCCG National Overseer Pastor Sunday Akande, the memo reiterated that the church does not condone any form of homosexuality, a position rooted in biblical teachings, including references to Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.
“Given our commitment to uphold biblical teachings, these allegations must be taken seriously,” RCCG stated, instructing a confidential investigation and temporary suspension of all duties for the accused officials. A letter to Pastor AdeBello, obtained by media, further emphasized that these alleged actions could constitute criminal offenses under state law if proven.
The RCCG Pastors Seed Family (PSF) Global Council also issued a letter, highlighting the serious nature of the accusations and calling for AdeBello’s compliance. “The alleged behavior compromises the RCCG Pastors Seed Family’s values of accountability and protection of vulnerable individuals,” the letter read. The church has advised Pastor AdeBello to step down from all positions, urging cooperation with the investigation and adherence to ethical conduct.
As RCCG navigates this issue, the church assured its commitment to “truth and appropriate actions,” emphasizing care and respect for all parties involved and reaffirming its duty to uphold the principles of integrity and accountability.
